Our migration service builds on Oracle supplied tools, as well as e-DBA derived best practices gathered from numerous RDBMS migration projects to accelerate and guide customers through the migration.

Building on our experience

The e-DBA migration services focuses not only on migration of the  platform, database and data, but also porting of the application code, most often consisting of large amounts of non Oracle code to Oracle PL/SQL.

By leveraging previous migration projects e-DBA  have developed a series of templates for code migration, allowing not just for porting of code, but for the implementation of performance improvements and features unique to Oracle ensuring additional value is achieved during migration. By looking to build on the powerful functions that exist within Oracle PL/SQL it is often possible to reduce the complexity of code significantly during migration making the on-going support and development effort significantly more cost effective.

Application Express

Oracle Application Express (Apex) is a rapid application development tool, packaged for free as part of the Oracle database. During the migration process e-DBA will assist customers by recommending appropriate places where Oracle Application Express can offer replacement functionality for existing code. By reducing the need for lengthy coding, or removing legacy code we help to ensure that development effort and on-going costs are reduced. Areas such as reports, data maintenance tools, and smaller departmental applications are ideal candidates for migration to Application Express.

Parallel Running

With any migration comes an element of concern, perhaps non more so than during a database migration.  Therefore for many customers an essential part of any migration process where critical applications are concerned is the ability to perform parallel running. The e-DBA migration programme allows for parallel running through the implementation of Oracle GoldenGate replication. GoldenGate is a proven heterogeneous replication platform, additionally allowing for pre switch over comparisons of data for assurance through the use of the Veridata function.

Flexibility Of Choice

Customers have the choice as to where migration occurs, with on-site, or remote migration services. Where remote migration services are required e-DBA can offer a secure development capability by using Data Masking as part of the solution to anonymise customer data before it is delivered to the e-DBA development environment. Alternative customers can use the e-DBA’s development platform, as a Cloud based platform for development, including a collaborative development environment.
